I guess the best that can be said about this meeting is what they didn’t do. The commissioners seemed to fixate on turning Burgo Way into a primary access point for the new plaza. Thankfully, that suggestion didn’t get any traction and was bumped down the road to be handled during phase 2 (residential) of the project. They next brought a motion to move the access road from connecting at Santo Stefano to between Taormina and Amity. This would have pushed the traffic closer to the bus stop, created a traffic conflict with vehicles turning from Amity, and allowed cars to reach even higher speeds coming south on Montague, by removing the stop signs which would have been placed at Santo Stefano. Finally, a motion was brought and passed to relocate the access road from Santo Stefano to midway between Santo Stefano and Mount Etna.
Frankly, I’m at a loss to explain what went on that night. It appeared none of the commissioners had a solid grasp of the issues, one commissioner felt that every square mile should have some type of retail shopping, even though that’s not identified on the future land use map; we were chastised for not accepting change; and finally you can read about how one commissioner feels about the public and children’s safety here. As our incoming President would tweet: So SAD!

Thank you for that Ken. After reading Paul Woods response it made me mad all over again. It is that type of attitude that proves how ineffective the process is. The commissioners have their own agenda and if we don't like it tough, get over it and stop whining!!

Hopefully this website and blog will help to improve communication among the residents of Tuscany concerning the proposed Firenze Plaza and the efforts being made by many of us to modify that proposal. Categories
